Orthotics for supporting the arch of your feet are so important for good health. Too much pressure on the balls and heels of the feet creates imbalance and dis-ease. Putting some of the pressure created from the weight of your body onto the middle of the foot by using an arch support in your shoes can prevent plantar fasciitis (an irritation and swelling of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot) and also heel spurs (a hook of bone that forms on the bone at the back of the foot). This article addresses exactly what makes a good insert and why.
For the last 20 years it has been my firm belief that the human body will thrive in good health when it is rewarded with natural things and usually fails in sickness when exposed to synthetics. For example, lets talk about arch supports for shoes, or as they are often called, orthotics. Almost all of the foot supports made now days are made of plastic or foam. These materials are created from petroleum (oil) and various chemicals. It has only been in just the last several decades that we have been exposed to so many synthetics and chemicals that are toxic to our bodies. We have much to learn about the ramifications of our ignorance. Wouldn't it be smart to stay way from direct exposure to these toxins?
See this link for pictures of an all natural leather orthotic that utilizes millet as the support mechanism. This orthotic is designed so that you can open the little door on the side of the insert and fill it with as much millet hulls as you need for support. http://www.vitalitymassage.net/customorthotics.html
I recommend that everyone learn about environmental hazards and how to reduce them from an incredible book called "Creating A Healthy Household" by Lynn Marie Bower. This is a powerful reference guide to removing the toxic materials in your environment.
Besides toxicity, plastic and foam orthotics are just not functionally able to move well with your feet. On the other hand, arch supports made from a natural material like leather (cow skin) will form well and flex properly when walked on. Every time you stride you create movement in your arch.
Our bodies are constantly changing. Millions of cells are produced and millions die each day. In ten years we won't even be the same people in many ways! Like your body, your feet are regularly changing, especially when you are adding support to them. It only makes sense that you need to be able to adjust the amount of support in your arch to create the muscular and connective tissue transition required for maximum foot health. Millet hulls (an all natural body support mechanism) are the natural answer to the need for alternating arch support. An orthotic with a pocket that can be filled with varying amounts of millet hulls to create different amounts of support is a better mouse trap. Over time, as you add more support to the orthotic, your body will change and get stronger. This process takes patience and persistence so keep with it and you will see results.
Another good book for you to read might be, "Natural Foot Care", Herbal Treatments, Massage, and Exercises For Healthy Feet by Stephanie Tourles.
Now you know why natural and adjustable arch supports are superior to the conventional ones so that you won't experience the agony of "de-feet".

Asheville Podiatrist Podiatry NC Alternative!
Reflexology is a great alternative to going to a podiatrist!
I'm Brett Rodgers, foot pain specialist. http://www.vitalitymassage.net/reflexology.html Before you go spending lots of time and money at the podiatrist office, please consider reflexology first! Reflexology is the stimulation of reflex points on the feet. Someone trained in this ancient art can do wonders to heal painful problems that many people would consider to be needing of a podiatrist and surgery. Before you go and do something crazy at least try a good foot rub session first. I'll bet I can help you! Also, did you know that you can heal any part of the body by rubbing ones feet? It's true! The hands and ears too. Like the rest of the body I just feel for the sore or protruding spots and work em. People just know they're being healed by the way it feels. Hurts so good! Interested in learning about reflexology? Ask me for a free chart. Be sure to check out my orthotics page. Orthotics can really help your feet to get stronger and to relieve painful problems caused by poor support under your arches.
